MLB ROUNDUP \ Tuesday’s other games

AMERICAN LEAGUE

Red Sox 6, Twins 5

BOSTON — Manny Ramirez hit a game-tying two-run homer as part of a four-run eighth inning rally to help Boston edge Minnesota. It was the second straight game Ramirez came through in the eighth inning to rally the Red Sox. His 17th homer of the season on Tuesday came off Twins reliever Matt Guerrier (4-4) and tied the game 5-5. One out after Ramirez’s home run, Kevin Youkilis doubled and Brandon Moss slapped a single up the middle for the go-ahead run. David Aardsma (3-2) got the final two outs in the eighth for the win. Jonathan Papelbon escaped trouble in the ninth for his 27th save.

Yankees 5, Rays 0

NEW YORK — Derek Jeter delivered with his bat and glove, backing a determined effort by Andy Pettitte that led New York to a much-needed win. Jeter lined an early go-ahead double off All-Star Scott Kazmir, then made a stellar play in the seventh inning that preserved a two-run lead and prompted a sellout crowd to chant his name. Pettitte needed little other help in pitching eight sharp innings.

Blue Jays 7, Orioles 6

TORONTO — Alex Rios scored when shortstop Freddie Bynum couldn’t handle a grounder in the bottom of the ninth inning. Rios drew a one-out walk off right-hander Jim Johnson (2-3), then stole second and went to third on a throwing error by catcher Ramon Hernandez as Vernon Wells struck out. Matt Stairs was intentionally walked to bring up Scott Rolen, who lined a grounder off Bynum’s glove and into left field, scoring Rios.

Rangers 3, Angels 2

ARLINGTON, Texas — Josh Hamilton’s major league-leading 87th RBI helped Texas left-hander Matt Harrison win his debut. Harrison was just a little better than All-Star lefty Joe Saunders of the Angels, who was pitching with his wife three days past the due date for their first child. Hamilton put the Rangers ahead 3-2 with a sixth-inning single that scored Ian Kinsler, who doubled to extend his hitting streak to a career-high 20 games.

NATIONAL LEAGUE

Diamondbacks 2, Nationals 0

WASHINGTON — Brandon Webb earned his major league leading 13th win, pitching six scoreless innings. Webb (13-4) struck out six and allowed six hits and two walks in his first start since being chosen for the NL All-Star team for a third straight year. It was the 16th time in his 19 starts Webb lasted at least six innings. After Webb left, Arizona’s bullpen did not allow a baserunner. Chad Qualls pitched the seventh, Tony Pena the eighth and Brandon Lyon pitched the ninth for his 19th save.

Cubs 7, Reds 3

CHICAGO — Ryan Dempster became the first Cubs pitcher in 31 years to start a season 10-0 at home and Mike Fontenot and Geovany Soto homered to lead Chicago. Dempster (10-3) is the first Cubs’ pitcher to win his first 10 decisions at home since Rick Reuschel in 1977. He allowed two hits and a run in seven innings, while throwing 103 pitches on a muggy night at Wrigley Field.

Mets 7, Giants 0

NEW YORK — Mike Pelfrey outpitched All-Star Tim Lincecum to win his fifth straight start and Carlos Beltran drove in four runs. Beltran hit a three-run homer in the first inning and Carlos Delgado also connected off Lincecum (10-2) to help the Mets win their fourth in a row.

Cardinals 2, Phillies 0

PHILADELPHIA — Joel Pineiro and three relievers combined on a six-hitter and Rick Ankiel and Ryan Ludwick hit solo homers. Pineiro (3-4) allowed five hits and walked three in 61‚Ñ3 innings for his first win since April 29. The right-hander was 0-2 with seven no-decisions in his previous nine starts.
