Robber steals deposit

BOARDMAN — Police were called to a robbery at the National City Bank branch on Market Street.

The man was inside the bank about 10 a.m. Monday wearing a gold coat, police said. The robber grabbed money from another man at the bank who was there to make a deposit and fled. Police were unable to locate the robber.

All-alumni reunion set

YOUNGSTOWN — Youngstown State University’s all-alumni reunion is planned in conjunction with this weekend’s Summer Festival of the Arts. From noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, each college will feature an array of activities and demonstrations throughout campus. At 5 p.m., alumni will gather for the alumni dinner in the Chestnut Room of Kilcawley Center, where numerous prizes, including a grand prize worth more than $1,000, will be given away. Ice cream social planned

YOUNGSTOWN — Hillman Church of Christ, corner of Avondale and Hillman, will have an ice cream social from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday as part of its Youth Off the Streets program.

Pastor Irvin Williams said this social and previous ones are serving as registration events for the program, which is geared to 12- to 17-year-olds. The program will include tutoring, mentorship, sessions on business skills and horticulture.

New Road to reopen

AUSTINTOWN — On Monday, New Road over state Route 11 is scheduled to reopen. When this occurs, Kirk Road over Route 11 is scheduled to close until early October. The detour will be Raccoon Road to New Road to state Route 46.

Sobriety checkpoint

A sobriety checkpoint will be held somewhere in Mahoning County from 10 p.m. Saturday until 2 a.m. Sunday by members of the Mahoning County Operating Vehicle Impaired Task Force, according to Tracy Styka, task force coordinator.

Vacant house destroyed

YOUNGSTOWN — A vacant two-story house at 1211 Erie St. on the South Side was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived around 4:20 a.m. Sunday. Fire crews set up a defensive operation to protect structures nearby. Damage to the house was set at $15,000, a total loss, and the cause is under investigation.
