Man faces gun charges

NEW CASTLE, Pa. — Police filed charges against a man they said pointed a gun at boys over firecrackers.

John Wesley Owens, 61, of 704 Harbor St., faces charges of unlawfully possessing firearms as a convicted felon; having firearms without a license; reckless endangering; and terroristic threats. He will go before District Justice Jennifer Nicholson at 9:30 a.m. next Tuesday.

Police said they were called to a neighbor of Owens’ after a 12- and a 14-year-old boy told family members he had pointed a gun at them.

Owens had told them to stop lighting firecrackers and they wouldn’t, so Owens got out a gun, the boys told police.

Police confiscated the gun, a .22-caliber Magnum, along with a 9 mm semiautomatic handgun.
