Numbers on school lunch program in Ohio:
An estimated 175 million meals — about 1.8 million a day — were served to pupils in Ohio public schools in the 2006-07 school year. About 74 million of those were free lunches and about 15 million were reduced-price meals.
About 620,000 children statewide, or 35 percent of pupils, receive free or reduced-price lunches through the federally assisted program.
Ohio received an estimated $228 million in federal reimbursement for school lunches in the 2006-07 school year — including paid, free and reduced-price meals.
Schools that have 60 percent or more of their pupils qualifying for the lunch program were reimbursed $2.49 per meal for free lunches and $2.09 for reduced-price lunches in the 2007-08 school year.
