Generally, a flood insurance policy covers the following items:

The insured building

Built-in appliances and central air

Permanently installed paneling, wallpaper, cabinets and carpets

Garage

Limited coverage for basements

Debris removal

The contents of the property, such as clothing, appliances and nonpermanent carpet, require extra coverage. Other items generally not covered:

Vehicles

Decks

Land and fences

Plants

Animals

Currency

Boats

Swimming pools
