Rookie Lonnie Chisenhall led Mahoning Valley with three hits, two of them doubles, and both RBIs.
VINDICATOR STAFF REPORT
BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The Mahoning Valley Scrappers’ winning streak was a short one as their bats went silent again and the bullpen couldn’t hold a lead in a 4-2 loss to the Brooklyn Cyclones Sunday night.
The Scrappers (8-12) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the third inning off the bat of the Cleveland Indians’ No. 1 draft choice, Lonnie Chisenhall, who doubled home both runs with a shot to right field.
Chisenhall finished with three hits, including a pair of doubles, but the rest of the Scrappers could only come up with two more hits off the Cyclones.
Brooklyn (11-9) scored single runs in the fifth and seventh inning, one on a solo home run by Sean Ratliff, then scored twice in the eighth on a two-run double by Joshua Satin to even up the series at one game each.
Scrappers’ starting pitcher Russell Young went five strong innings allowing just four hits and one earned run while striking out five. Austin Creps (1-2) suffered the loss, allowing both runs in the eighth.
The two teams will close out their series today in a noon contest at KeySpan Park. Mahoning Valley will return home to open a three-game series with the Vermont Lake Monsters beginning Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. at Eastwood Field.
