Monday's Best Bets on TV
“Elvis Mitchell: Under the Influence” (8 p.m., TCM): In “Elvis Mitchell: Under the Influence,” the former New York Times film critic goes one-on-one with Hollywood celebrities in interviews that explore how classic films influenced their lives. First up is the late Oscar-winning director Sydney Pollack in a get-together taped last year.
“The Bachelorette” (8 p.m., ABC): Oh boy, it’s decision time on “The Bachelorette.” DeAnna Pappas has enjoyed having a lot of hunky suitors kiss up to her, but now the run for the roses is over, and she must reveal which guy has won her heart.
“The Art of Failure: Chuck Connelly Not for Sale” (9 p.m., HBO): Being compared to Van Gogh is an impressive start for a young artist, and it was the welcome that greeted neo-expressionist Chuck Connelly when he joined the art scene in New York in the 1980s. There were comparisons as well to his contemporaries Jean-Michel Basquiat and Julian Schnabel, and more than accolades: Connelly sold $1 million-plus of his work and was represented by a top art dealer. But the story lacks a fairy tale ending, at least so far, according to “The Art of Failure: Chuck Connelly Not for Sale,” a documentary debuting on HBO. According to the film directed by Jeff Stimmel, Connelly became known for alienating collectors and gallery owners with his attacks on what he saw as the hypocrisy and dishonesty of the art world. The film includes interviews with Connelly and others, as well as home video of Connelly and footage of “The Chuck Show: A Retrospective,” which shows the 3,000 or so paintings stored in Connelly’s attic.
“How’d That Get On My Plate?” (9:30 p.m., Food Network): This series follows one raw ingredient as it moves through the process and onto your plate.
“The Soup Presents: People Who Won’t Go Away” (10 p.m., E!): David Hasselhoff, Danny Bonaduce, Scott Baio, Janice Dickinson ... the list goes on.
