Galbreath improves following stroke
Dr. Gary Roberts, Hermitage Optometrist and long time friend of Ron Galbreath, said he was down to visit Ron when he was in the Hamarville Rehabilitation Center.
Dr. Galbreath suffered a stroke earlier and he is now recuperating at home.” His improvement is remarkable and he seems to be getting stronger each day,” said Roberts. “He was even taking a spoon to his mouth, so things have been coming along. He had been working on his physical therapy but now he’s changing over, hoping to get more of a hold on all phases.”
Dr. Galbreath was a long-time athlete at Westminster College and a tremendous basketball coach.
He departed from Westminster and took over the head coaching position of the women’s basketball team at Geneva College.
Roberts and Galbreath have been two of the greatest racquetball players in the nation. Both have walked off with national championship honors in tourneys all over the country. The two are extremely talented.
Young at Urbana
Remember Doug Young? He was one of the finest baseball pitchers to ever take the mound at Hickory High School. A former Mercer County MVP, he reportedly tossed 10 no hitters or so and drew the attention of the Philadelphia Phillies.
Well, Young is now head of the Urbana University athletic program as director. Urbana under Young’s tutelage, is in transition from the NAIA to NCAA Division II. It is a big challenge and some schools have failed to improve their programs by making the change.
For his sterling efforts, Young was presented the university’s “Excellence in Performance Award”.
The award is presented to the young man who made the greatest impact on the institution’s overall success.
Besides being a motivational speaker, Young serves as official scorer for the Columbus Clippers during the summer months.
