YOUNGSTOWN — A three-week Dining with Diabetes series of classes is offered from 9 to 11:30 a.m. July 14, 21 and 28 at the Senior Independence Center of Mahoning County, 1110 Fifth Ave. The class is open to diabetics, their family members and caretakers. It is sponsored by the Ohio State University Extension, Mahoning County and Forum Health/Diabetes Help. The cost is $25. Pre-registration is required. Call (330) 533-5538.
Alliance blood drive
ALLIANCE — On Thursday, the Alliance Community Hospital is having its monthly American Red Cross blood drive in conjunction with all area emergency responders. The drive will be held at ACH from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Conference Room 1-A on the first floor. All donors will receive a special T-Shirt honoring the emergency responders., and the Alliance Dairy Queen will provide five coupons for a Dairy Queen frozen cake, which will be awarded via a random drawing of all donors.
Also, all donors from June 1 through Sept. 1 will be entered into a drawing for one of five $500 gas cards or the grand prize of “Gas for a Year,” a $3,000 value.
Vaccine will be covered
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The WellPoint insurance company said that it will cover the rotavirus vaccine, Rotarix Æ, designed to prevent a virus which causes vomiting and diarrhea in infants and children. This decision to cover Rotarix Æ, manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline, is based on formal recommendations announced this week by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP).
ACIP recommended that Rotarix Æ be added to the list of recommended inoculations offered to infants. Rotarix Æ is a liquid given in a two-dose series to infants 6-24 weeks old. The vaccine will be covered for infants whose benefit plans provide coverage for vaccines. Policyholders should confirm their specific benefits by calling the toll-free telephone number listed on their insurance card.
Help Hotline grant
YOUNGSTOWN — Help Hotline Crisis Center has been approved for a $15,000 grant from the Margaret Clark Morgan Foundation to help finance classes for consumers of mental health services called BRIDGES (Building Recovery of Individual Dreams and Goals through Education). The project is also funded by the Mahoning County Board of Mental Health and Trumbull Lifelines. Call (330) 747-2696.
Health fair July 15
EAST LIVERPOOL — Catholic Charities Regional Agency’s Senior Center, 600 E. Fourth St., will conduct a free health fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 15, which will include eye and blood pressure screening, diabetic screening test, body fat assessment, hearing tests and nutrition information. The Mammovan will be there to provide free or low-cost mammograms for women who meet eligibility guidelines.
Also, registration for Ohio Benefit Bank will take place, wherein eligible residents can sign up for food stamp and other benefits. Call (330) 385-4732.

BOARDMAN — The American Red Cross Mahoning Chapter, 8392 Tod Ave., is offering classes in Infant and Child CPR from 6 to 10 p.m. Thursday, at a cost of $30; and Adult CPR from 6 to 10 p.m. Wednesday, at a cost $35. Call (330) 726-6063 to register.
