Scrappers lose to Staten Island; Mahoning Valley’s slide at three

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The Mahoning Valley Scrappers and the Staten Island Yankees produced their own fireworks on Friday, but they probably weren’t as much fun to watch.

The Scrappers compiled 10 hits and 12 walks, but it wasn’t enough in an 11-9 loss to the Yankees in a New York-Penn League game that lasted more than 31‚Ñ2 hours.

Isaias Velasquez went 2-for-4 with a walk and three runs scored for the Scrappers (7-11), who fell behind 6-1 after four innings.

Jeremie Tice, Brock Simpson and Douglas Pickens each added two hits and two runs in the loss.

Mahoning Valley has lost three straight.
