Scrappers routed 10-1 by Yankees

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Mahoning Valley Scrappers’ problems continued both with the bats and on the mound as they dropped their second straight decision to the Staten Island Yankees 10-1 Thursday night at the Richmond County Bank Ballpark.

The Scrappers (7-10) managed just five hits off the Yankees pitching and also committed four errors, while Staten Island (10-7) had 10 hits off five Mahoning Valley pitchers.

The Yankees scored twice in the fourth inning and then exploded for four runs in each of the fifth and seventh frames to blow the contest open.

Mahoning Valley scored its only run in the top of the eighth when Lonnie Chisenhall opened with a double to left, took third on an error and scored when Jeremie Tice grounded out to shortstop.

Brock Simpson had two of the five hits for the Scrappers.

The two teams will wind up their series tonight in a 7:05 start.
