Class B playoffs resume today
STRUTHERS — Today’s Class B League playoff schedule at Cene Park starts with Dave Sugar Excavating against Livi Steel on field No. 1 at 11:30 a.m.
Thursday’s games were rained out.
Sugar leads the best-of-three series, 1-0.
If Livi wins game two, then game three will follow at 2 p.m.
R&J Trucking leads its best-of-three game series with Simon Roofing, 1-0.
R&J and Simon tangle against at 11:30 a.m. on Cene 2.
If Simon wins, the teams play again at 2.
The next round starts Saturday at 5 and 7:30 p.m. on Cene 1.
In Little B playoffs on Field 3, also best-of-3, Simon meets Livi at 11:30 a.m., while Youngstown Express plays Wharmby Sports at 2 p.m.
Both Livi and Wharmby have 1-0 leads in their series.
If, necessary, third games will be Saturday
The next round of little b playoffs will start Saturday if the first round is finished, at 5 and 7:30 p.m. on Field 2.
Sugar 5, Livi Steel 4
STRUTHERS —Late Wednesday, Nick Dinello’s two out single up the middle scored the game-winning run for Dave Sugar .
Livi Steel had tied the contest in the top of the seventh with a two -out bunt single off the bat of Jesse Badgett.
The win went to Todd Kibby who pitched the seventh for Dave Sugar.
Zack Maghee went the distance in defeat for Livi. He walked nine with seven strikeouts. Dan Perkins had three hits and Jae Leeworthy two for Livi Steel.
Tri-State Collegiate
YOUNGSTOWN — Cory Hess had two doubles and a single, while Kris McDonough added a double and single as Washington (Pa.) defeated Youngstown Metros, 9-3, at Pemberton-Donnell Park.
Armani Johnson’s three singles paced Metros, which also got one hit apiece from Chester Kirkwood, Josh Gardner and Joe Iacobucci.
Warren AA League
WARREN — After Cleats Club Seat Grille took an early lead, the Marlins chipped away at it and prevailed, 4-3.
Tom Popadak knocked in two runs for Marlins, while Josh Miller had two RBIs for Cleats.
Mahoning Valley Knights 8, Elite 1
WARREN — Knights starting pitcher Jeremy Hartman (4-0) had eight strikeouts, while John Thompson, Derek Stanton, and Rick DiMuzio each batted in two runs.
Stanton scored two runs and also had a sixth-inning triple.
Elite Shockers 7, Trumbull Co. Predators 4
WARREN — Tony Pozega and four relievers worked on the win for Elite, with Nate Daugherty getting the win and Mark Yartz the save.
Jeremy Krol had two hits for Elite, while Jake Kakauros and Craig Dobos each drove in two runs.
Joe Hardy was 3-for-4 with two stolen bases for the Predators.
