Blewitt 11th in qualifying
EUGENE, Ore. — Boardman native Adriane Blewitt was in 11th place after the women’s shot put preliminaries at the U.S. Olympic track and field trials Friday morning.
Blewitt reached 17 meters (55 feet, 9.25 inches) on her first attempt. She fouled on her second attempt, and reached 16.94 meters on her third try.
Michelle Carter is in first place with 18.33 meters (60 feet, 1.75 inches) after the preliminaries.
The finals are scheduled for 4 p.m. (EDT) Saturday. The top three finishers earn a spot on the U.S. Olympic team for the Beijing Games in August.
