Westminster event offers food and fun

NEW CASTLE, Pa. — Jameson Health System and Westminster College, along with the Caroline Knox Memorial Trust Fund, are sponsoring the annual Independence Day celebration at Brittain Lake on the Westminster campus today. The event is free and open to the public.
Food and refreshments will be available at the event. The music will begin at 7:30 p.m. with a performance by the River City Brass Band, whose repertoire ranges from familiar folk tunes to ballads, favorites from Broadway and Hollywood, classical music and march songs. The Pennsylvania National Guard Howitzers and the Eintracht Maennerchor will also perform. Eintracht Maennerchor, or “Men’s Chorus,” has a bilingual repertoire that includes German songs in the German language and American songs in English.
A fireworks display will be presented by Pyrotecnico at 9:15 p.m. There is lawn seating only, and attendees are urged to bring their own chairs and/or blankets for seating. There will not be a rain date. For more information, call (724) 946-7354.
