Scrappers homered by Yankees in ninth

Mike Lyon’s solo home run with two outs gave Staten Island a 5-4 win.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The Mahoning Valley Scrappers got homered by the Yankees.

Staten Island’s Mike Lyon hit a solo homer to center with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to lift the Yankees to a 5-4 victory on Wednesday in a New York-Penn League game.

Austin Creps got the loss for Mahoning Valley (7-9). Josue Selenes pitched two scoreless innings of relief to get the win for Staten Island (9-7).

Lonnie Chisenhall and Brock Simpson each went 3-for-5 with an RBI in a losing effort. Zach Booker added two hits and scored a run.
