McDonald board appoints former teacher

staff report

McDONALD — Joan Bako Miles, a retired McDonald High School teacher, was appointed by the village board of education to fill the unexpired term of the late Atty. William Roux.

Miles, who taught business classes at the high school and was National Honor Society adviser, was selected from nine applicants during a special board meeting Wednesday.

Roux died unexpectedly June 10 and had served on the school board for 25 years.

Teachers who were hired at Wednesday’s special board meeting are: Alan Staley, high school science; Jessica Brinker, high school math; Patti Vilk-Worrell, elementary teacher; Christine DelFosse and Josh Krumpak, special education; and Louis Domitrovich, high school language arts.

Five teachers and high school principal John LaRocca took advantage of an early retirement incentive buyout and retired early after the 2007-2008 school year. The retirees received a buyout incentive of $19,500 each.

LaRocca was replaced by new high school principal Gary Carkido.
