No rain: Tuesday night marked the ninth home game this season for the Scrappers, but it was the first one when there was no rain either before or during the game. The Scrappers have won only three of the first eight games at home and were 3-3 on its first road trip.
First to 10: Auburn’s 11-inning victory over the Scrappers Monday night enabled the Doubledays to become the first team in the New York-Penn League to win 10 games. Auburn also took a 11‚Ñ2 game lead over second place Jamestown going into Tuesday’s game in the Pinckney Division.
Hot bat: Mahoning Valley’s rookie shortstop and the No. 1 draft pick of the Cleveland Indians, Lonnie Chisenhall, has been red hot at the plate. He was 6-for-10 in his last two games with a home run, two runs scored and a stolen base. He also leads the NYPL with two triples this season .
Promotions: Tuesday night was Steroid Awareness Night and also Youth Sports Tuesday where youngsters wearing their game jerseys, whether it be baseball, softball or soccer, could purchase a ticket for just $1.
Tops in league: It’s no surprise that Auburn, with the best record in the NYPL, is also the best hitting team in the league with a .273 average. The Doubledays also lead the league in pitching with an ERA of 2.36. Auburn has also scored the most runs (77) and is tied for the most hits (132) and has the fewest strikeouts (80).
