Rondinelli seeded No. 1 for playoffs; first round ready


R & J Trucking plays Simon Roofing in one first-round series, while Astros and Sugar play Livi in another.

STRUTHERS — Rondinelli earned the No. 1 seed for the upcoming Class B League playoffs.

Rondinelli (24-3) has a bye for the first round of the six-team postseason, which is scheduled to begin tonight at Cene Park.

R J Trucking will play Simon Roofing in one first-round series, while Astro Falcons or Dave Sugar Excavating will play Livi Steel in the other series.

STRUTHERS — Rondinelli scored eight times in the fourth inning to finish the regular season with a 24-3 record.

Jason Bagoly had a triple and two singles, while Phil Double, Jason Ferguson, and Anthony Franceschelli added two hits each for Rondinelli. Drew Fitzpatrick (3-0) tossed the first six innings with five strikeouts for the win.

Ross Revella and Brad Bates had two hits for Simon Roofing.

R J Trucking 3, Action Physical Therapy 0

STRUTHERS — Matt Pitzulo had three hits, while Evan Campbell had a single and a double for R J. Nick Tomko (4-1) went the first four innings for the win and Dan Kubala picked up his second save with a perfect seventh.

Mike Backes (0-7) went the distance allowing only two earned runs for Action (1-26).

STRUTHERS — Corey Hitt had three hits and three RBIs for Rondinelli in a game late Monday. Drew Fitzpatrick, Jason Ferguson and Cory Hill added two hits apiece while Cory McGinnis (5-1) struck out eight in a complete-game effort.

STRUTHERS — Matt Matune pitched a four-hitter and induced 14 groundouts.

Joe Strawinsky allowed only one earned run and struck out for the Express.

WARREN — Richard Benchia scattered four hits, striking out five, to lead Flex Strut over Elite Shockers, 7-3, Monday night.

Jeff Claar and Jim Newbrough had three hits each for Flex Strut, while Adam Morgan added a double. Newbrough and Bill Eddy each drove in two runs.

Tony Pozega had three hits, including a solo home run, for Elite Shockers.

P.I. I. Express 6, Trumbull County Predators 4

WARREN — Mike Carnahan’s two-run homer led P.I. I., while Dave Patrick struck out five and scattered eight hits in a complete-game win.

Patrick and Josh Stipanovich also hit doubles for P.I. I., while Brett Grabman singled twice.

John Wagner had three hits, including a double, for the Predators, and Joe Hardy singled twice with a pair of stolen bases. Jarrett Partridge had three RBIs.
