Contract awarded for sewer project on Boardman street

staff report

YOUNGSTOWN — Mahoning County commissioners have awarded a $109,699 contract to Foust Construction of Girard for a long-awaited storm sewer installation project on Aylesboro Avenue in Boardman.

The project, which entails installation of 425 feet of storm sewer along Aylesboro Avenue, is being funded by $71,807 in federal Community Development Block Grant monies and $37,892 from Boardman Township. The commissioners awarded the contract Tuesday, and the work will be performed this summer.

Aylesboro Avenue runs from Market Street to Glenwood Avenue about a half-mile north of U.S. Route 224. Homes on Aylesboro were plagued with flooding during the heavy rains of 2003.

William Coleman, office manager for the county sanitary engineer’s office, said that the $4.7 million Petersburg sanitary sewer installation project is now nearing completion and that the sewer will be available for connection late this summer or early this fall. A $1.8 million public water line installation project under construction there is set for completion next year, he added.
