2 vehicles follow police car after arrest
staff report
YOUNGSTOWN — A high-speed chase across the city’s South Side on Tuesday morning happened in reverse — with two vehicles pursuing authorities after an arrest on Mistletoe Avenue.
Darcel D. Gilmore and Kelan Gilmore arrived at the scene of Jason Gilmore’s arrest on a warrant of felon in possession of a firearm. Their relationship wasn’t specified in the police report.
The two approached the authorities and were belligerent, according to a Youngstown police report. As Jason Gilmore was put into an unmarked police car, he yelled to the other two to follow him.
Five officers and agents from the Youngstown police, federal Drug Enforcement Administration and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, and Mahoning Valley Law Enforcement Task Force were en route on Hillman Street in four unmarked vehicles to the federal courthouse downtown, with Jason Gilmore in the first vehicle.
On Hillman Street at Boston Avenue, Darcel and Kelan Gilmore passed the fourth vehicle, which radioed ahead to the others. Police said the Gilmore cars ran three red lights and nearly caused an accident at Indianola Avenue and Market Street before being stopped by additional marked police cars at Pasedena Avenue.
Darcel and Kelan Gilmore were cited with traffic violations and obstruction of justice.
