Hip-hop concert

LAKEWOOD — Several Mahoning Valley hip-hop artists will perform at a benefit concert at 7 p.m. Friday at Phantasy Nite Club, 11802 Detroit Ave. Young Trajik of Warren and Deuce Dawg, also of Warren, are on the bill, which also includes S-Money, Street Made, Kre, Ammo Artilary, Common Crew and aceeano. Admission for the event, which will benefit City Mission Food Drive, is $3 ($2 up charge for those under 21) and a canned food item.

New PBS series teaches
children about money

KENT — “Biz Kidz,” a new weekly television series that teaches children how to manage their money, premieres at 8:30 a.m. Sunday on PBS 45/49. The show, from the creators of “Bill Nye the Science Guy,” is geared toward children ages 6-12. Each half-hour episode introduces several young entrepreneurs and philanthropists who share their success stories.

Oscar-winning music
at Salem theater

SALEM — Salem Community Theatre will present “Hooray For Hollywood!,” a tribute to Oscar-winning music, Feb. 8 and 9. Produced and directed by Gary and Cheryl Kekel, the show features Jim McClellan, Attila Samu, the Kekels, Kelsey Crismon, Mark Frost, Cassie Utt, Kathie Steeb and Reed Worth. Mad About the Arts tickets

YOUNGSTOWN — The 12th annual Mad About the Arts celebration will be Feb. 22 at the McDonough Museum of Art on Wick Avenue. The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a friends reception, featuring entertainment by Irish-folk band Brady’s Leap. The main celebration starts at 7:30 and includes a performance by Geo C and Tha Storm. On display in the galleries will be The Graphic Imperative, a retrospective of 40 years of international sociopolitical posters. Tickets are $75 for the friends reception and $40 for the main celebration, and can be reserved by calling (330) 941-2787. Mad About the Arts benefits the McDonough and SMARTS (Students Motivated by the Arts).

Gallery opens in Salem

SALEM — The Danklef Hill Gallery, located on the second floor of the Friends Roastery, 474 E. State St., is celebrating its grand opening with an open house from 10 to 2 p.m. Saturday. The gallery is currently showing the work of painter Kristina Danklef-Moore and sculptor Kathleen Hill as well as fused glass jewelry by Loretta Tipton. The current featured artist is Elizabeth Babb, a successful abstract artist who has shown work in a number of local, regional and national exhibits. The featured artist exhibits will change each 4 to 6 weeks. The Danklef Hill Gallery was established in 2007 by local artists Hill and Danklef-Moore.
