Boardman fire truck, station damaged in fluke accident

BOARDMAN — A fire truck leaving the fire station at Lockwood Boulevard and Shields Road, damaged the front of the building when a door flew open.

Fire Chief Jim Dorman said the firefighters made sure all the doors were closed before leaving the station about 3:30 p.m. today. But a door came open as the truck moved through the doorway, damaging the building’s doorway, part of the building and the truck.

“It’s pretty extensive,” Dorman said of the damage.

Workers from National Fire Repair and masonry employees were surveying the damage and trying to secure the building for the night. No damage estimate was available.

Dorman said the building remains usable. The trucks will use a back door to enter and exit. The damaged truck will be taken out of service until it can be repaired, however, the chief added.
