YOUNGSTOWN — Mahoning United Methodist Church, 2214 Mahoning Ave., will serve a “Fat Saturday” dinner, featuring beef tips and noodles and an all-you-can-eat dessert table from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

Tickets will be available at the door at a cost of $7.50 for adults and $3 for children 7 to 12. Takeouts will be available.

Polish Arts Club plans tea
at Butler art museum

YOUNGSTOWN — Polish Arts Club of Youngstown will present its 72nd Annual Music, Arts and Scholarship Tea from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Butler North building next to Butler Institute of American Art on Wick Avenue.

Featured artists include Vit Fiala, internationally trained cellist, accompanied by Marguerite Daniluk, accomplished pianist. Also performing will be author and YSU professor Christopher Barzak, who will entertain by reading a selection from his novel, “One for Sorrow,” some of which takes place in the Valley.

Local fine-art collector Joseph Kope will display items from his vast collection, including those from Albrecht Dürer, Francisco de Goya and Honoré Daumier.

Scholarships will be presented to deserving area students.

High tea and refreshments will be served. The public is encouraged to attend.

Vendors sought for event

SALEM — The annual Makeover Mania is being sponsored by Quota Club of Salem from 1 to 5 p.m. Feb. 10 at Timberlanes.

Just Dessert offered
by Someplace Safe

WARREN — Someplace Safe Inc., Trumbull County domestic violence agency, will host its fifth annual Just Dessert fundraiser at 6 p.m. Feb. 8 at Leo’s Ristorante in Howland.

There will be a silent auction throughout the evening, followed by a live auction at 8:05 that will feature such things as the use of a Hummer for a weekend and a Walt Disney World vacation package.

Musical entertainment will be by Take II, and an assortment of delectable desserts will be available.

Cost is $30 per person. Tickets will be available at the door or can be purchased in advance by calling (330) 393-3003.

Crime to be solved
by audience at gala

YOUNGSTOWN — Montessori School of the Mahoning Valley is inviting armchair sleuths and amateur detectives to help solve a crime to be perpetrated during a mystery dinner theater gala to be held from 6 to 10 p.m. Feb. 9 at the Byzantine Center at the Grove, 3801 Shady Run Road.

Written by Eileen Moushey, “The Curse of the Hopeless Diamond” will be an audience participation production, presented by local actors who will provide clues leading to the solving of the crime.

There will also be a silent auction for such things as a three-hour yacht cruise on Lake Erie, stained-glass art and other gifts. The buffet menu will include salad, green beans almondine, garlic whipped potatoes, penne pasta with marinara sauce, stuffed chicken breast, rolls and desserts. A cash bar will be available.
