Pawn shop completes educational hours

COLUMBUS — A Youngstown pawn shop has paid the $600 fine and completed several hours of continuing education required to keep its license.

The Pawn Shop, 3314 South Ave., was ordered by The Ohio Department of Commerce Division of Financial Institutions to pay the fine and complete the educational hours required by Ohio Revised Code after it discovered the business had not completed the requirements during its July 1, 2004, through June 30, 2006, license period. According to Dennis Ginty from the Department of Commerce, the business paid the fine and reported the training complete in December.

The matter was discovered last year when the business filed to renew its license. The division is charged with ensuring Ohio Pawnbrokers conform to the Ohio Pawnbroker Act of the Ohio Revised Code, which includes 12 hours of continuing education every two-year license period.
