Rape, kidnapping trial begins in Trumbull County

WARREN — Testimony is under way in the rape, kidnapping and theft trial of a 56-year-old Warren Township man accused of threatening a Warren woman with an ice pick before forcing her to engage in sexual activity.

The woman escaped from him by saying she was going upstairs to check on her 3-year-old daughter, an assistant prosecutor said during opening statements today in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court.

The woman tried to barricade herself inside of a bedroom by placing a television set behind the door, he said.

But defendant Richard Hadden started beating down the door, so she grabbed her daughter and jumped, naked, out a second-story window and fled to a nearby house, said Mike Burnett, an assistant county prosecutor.
