Gardening seminar Feb. 21 at Davis Center


YOUNGSTOWN — Men’s Garden Club of Youngstown and Ohio State University Extension of Mahoning County will host their third annual winter seminar Feb. 21 at the Davis Center in Fellows Riverside Gardens, Mill Creek Park.

The all-day seminar will feature four 75-minute educational sessions to be conducted by horticultural experts. In the morning, Dr. Bill Zumbar, retired Walsh University professor and owner of Adrian Flowers, will speak on “Hostas and Other Shade Stuff,” and afterward, Dr. Curtis Young, educator with OSU Extension’s Allen County branch, will discuss “Why You Should Like Insects.”

After lunch, “Wine Research” will be the theme of Dr. Todd Steiner, enologist with the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center in Wooster, and the day will be wrapped up with instructions on “Landscape Design” by Dr. Laura Deeter, assistant professor of horticulture at OSU.

Local horticultural organizations will man exhibitor tables throughout the day.
