Fitch coasts past Chaney, 63-36
Rachel Rouan and Kayla Hanuschak combined for 36 points for the Falcons.
AUSTINTOWN — Rachel Rouan and Kayla Hanuschak shared 36 points Monday as the Fitch High girls basketball team defeated Chaney, 63-36.
The Falcons (6-12), observing Senior Night, built a commanding 38-20 lead by halftime then cruised to the victory over the Cowboys (5-10).
Fitch’s Rouan scored 19 points and Hanuschak 17.
Cassie Banfield added seven. Clenisha Pless and Whitli Sanders each scored eight points for the Cowboys.
Akron Hoban 78, Ursuline 67
AKRON — Ursuline fell into a 40-24 halftime hole and was unable to recover sufficiently to lose to highly-rated Akron Hoban (16-2), which was led by Rachel Tecca’s 28 points and 10 rebounds.
The Irish (10-7), led by Jaleesa Beverly’s 28 points and 13 rebounds, outscored Hoban in the third quarter, 24-19, but managed only a 19-19 tie in the final period.
Jesse Girona added 14 points while Amanda Perc and Mary Sokol had nine apiece for Hoban.
Jasmine Brown contributed 10 points and four assists and Lucia Petrus nine points to aid the Irish.
Akron SVSM 50, East 37
YOUNGSTOWN — East (7-8) kept it close for the first half as it fell behind 26-22. Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary outscored the Bears 23-15 the last two quarters.
Brittany Taylor scored 13 points for the Bears. Monet Oliver pulled down 12 of 39 rebounds and she had five steals. Brianna Dawson had four assists and two blocks.
Amanda Olezswki led SVSM with 16 points.
Howland 43, Niles 31
HOWLAND — The Tigers’ defensive limited the Red Dragons to six points in the second quarter, and seven each in the third and fourth periods in the Metro Athletic Conference contest.
Alexa Williams scored a game high 22 points and grabbed 14 of 23 rebounds for the Tigers (14-3, 10-2). Allie Airhart chipped in with 10 points.
Nina Gabrelcik led the Red Dragons (6-10, 2-7) with 10 points. Amanda Binion pulled down 6 of 14 rebounds.
