’Hounds player out of hospital


Jeff Alcombrack was released Monday, but his return to the ice is uncertain.

YOUNGS-TOWN — Youngstown SteelHounds defenseman Jeff Alcombrack was released from the area hospital Monday after suffering an injury during the first period of Friday night’s game against the Rocky Mountain Rage.

Alcombrack, 28, was involved in a play when he hit the ice and slid headfirst into the goal post. Play was stopped for 22 minutes as Alcombrack was attended to on the ice. He regained consciousness before being taken to an area medical facility.

A CAT scan Saturday showed that Alcombrack’s condition had stabilized and that there was no swelling. Alcombrack’s return date to the ice is uncertain; however he does plan on returning to the team in time for the playoffs.

“I have some soreness in my neck but other than that I feel OK,” said Alcombrack. “I just need to take my time and rest and I would like to make it back in time to finish the regular season.”

Alcombrack has eight goals and 23 assists in 37 games for the SteelHounds this season; his 31 points leads the team’s defensemen. The sixth year pro from of Kincardine, Ont., is in his third season with Youngstown. In 299 career Central Hockey League games, he has 35 goals and 124 assists. He has also played with teams in Memphis, New Mexico, Odessa and Austin.

Youngstown (23-14-2) travels to Odessa for games Friday and Saturday at 8:05 p.m.
