SWCD hires 3 to deal with issues


The workers replaced others who had left.

CORTLAND — The Trumbull Soil & Water Conservation District has hired three Trumbull County residents to work on issues such as land conservation and storm-water management.

They have been hired to replace other workers who have moved on to other jobs in recent months. The SWCD has offices in the Agriculture and Family Education Center on West Main Street.

The funding for the district’s work comes from government sources such as Trumbull County commissioners, Ohio Department of Natural Resources and local townships and municipalities.

Brett Bell of Burghill was hired as the natural resource specialist. Bell is a 2006 graduate of Thiel College in Greenville, Pa. He has a bachelor of arts degree in environmental science.

He has both an agricultural and environmental assessment background. He will work with farmers, developers, builders and landowners on management practices for conservation and natural resource protection. He is active with the Northeast Ohio Loggers Chapter, Food and Agriculture Committee and the Trumbull Zoning Inspectors Association.

Jacob Gore of Cortland was hired as conservation specialist. He is completing his engineering degree at Kent State University and is a gardener and outdoorsman.

His responsibilities include working with the county’s storm-water plan and conducting reviews and inspections of storm water, drainage, erosion, and development issues. His focus will be on landowners, developers and contractors on management practices for conservation and natural resource protection. He is active with the Trumbull Zoning Inspectors Association.

Jason Trapp of Howland was hired as the storm-water specialist. He will complete his engineering degree in the spring from Youngstown State University. His program internship was with the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, where he worked with communities and developers on the six minimum-control measures of their storm-water program.

He was co-captain of the YSU tennis team and was involved with the Trumbull Tennis Association. He is also active with the Trumbull Zoning Inspectors Association.
