Youngstown city schools get outside help for new technology
The city school district has received a number of government and private grants to fund innovative academic, socialization and staff development programs. They include:
Raymond J. Wean Foundation: $50,000 to provide grants of $500 to $2,000 each to teachers to devise innovative math and science programs.
Schermer Trust & Diyorio Foundation: $10,000-$15,000 to provide grants of $200 to $3,000 each for teachers to devise innovation programs in any classroom instruction.
21st Century Community Learning Grant: $200,000 in state and federal funds to provide after-school academic and other enrichment activities for students at East and Chaney high schools.
Character Education Grant: $1.6 million over four years from the federal Office of Safe and Drug Free Schools to fund a program focusing on character development among middle school pupils.
State Action for Educational Leadership Project: $120,000 a year for three years to build teacher and administrative leadership.
