LinMar open mic night

YOUNGSTOWN — An open mic night will be held at 7 p.m. Feb. 15 at LinMar Strategies for Entertainment, 16 Wick Ave. (4th floor of the National City Building, Downtown). Singers, poets and musicians 18 and over can participate. The event is produced by Alex Hines 22, and Jamhal Simon 21, both of Youngstown. Simon, a student of Youngstown State University, is a mentor at P. Ross Berry Middle School. He is also music director for LinMar Strategies, which produces the television shows The Valley Gold Show and Your Time to Shine. Kent-Trumbull art show

NILES — Works by art students from Kent State University Trumbull Campus are on display at Art Outreach Gallery in Eastwood Mall. The exhibition, which runs through Feb. 24, features the work of nine artists in various media: Dave Ruple, April Dunn, Elizabeth Given, Allyson E Hibbard, Lara Downing, Kim Kaselonis, Tarah L Brumbaugh, Ava M Houser and Barbara Yoxall. The gallery is across from American Eagle Outfitters, along the concourse between Macy’s and JC Penney’s. Hours are 5-9 p.m. Friday, 1-9 p.m. Saturday; and 1-5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free.

Web site seeks artisans

ATHENS, Ohio — ArtofOhio.com is accepting applications for artists to display their work online via this shared e-commerce Web site. The site is designed to capture the regional flavor of art, home decor and foods created by Ohio artisans, and provide an opportunity for them to reach new markets. The site is sponsored by the non-profit organization ACEnet (the Appalachian Center for Economic Networks). Potential applicants for the site must reside and produce their work within the state, with an emphasis on the 29 counties of Appalachian Ohio. Artists working with glass; jewelry; ceramics; sculpture; wood; metal; fiber; paintings; prints; photographs; collage and other media (including quilting) are invited to submit applications. Flute duo concert

ALLIANCE — The Halim Flute Duo will present “Flutes Around the World” at 8 p.m. Wednesday in Presser Recital Hall, Mount Union College. Hagit Rosmanrin and Gil Bohadana comprise the Israeli duo, which has performed worldwide. The concert is free. Pint-Size Prom for kids

BOARDMAN — Boardman Township Park is hosting Pint Size Prom from 2 to 4 p.m. Feb. 17 at the park’s Community Center. The event is for children 5 and under and their date: mom, dad or both. It will include dancing, games, crafts, a professional photo and a snack. Tickets are $6 per person for Boardman residents ($8 for non-residents) and are availab le at the park office.

Trio to perform

YOUNGSTOWN — The Dana School of Music will present the newly formed New York Empire Trio at 8 p.m. Wednesday in Bliss Recital Hall, Wick Avenue. Violinist Hristo Popov, cellist Kalin Ivanov and pianist Joshua Pierce will perform works by Haydn, Schubert and Dvorak in the free concert. For more information, call (330) 941-3636.

Steel drum duo

LIBERTY — The Panyard Steel Drum Duo of Akron will perform at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Liberty branch of the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library, 415 Church Hill-Hubbard Road. The performance is free and refreshments will be available.

Bourbon Street Night

YOUNGSTOWN — Guitarist-vocalist Julius Veal will return to his hometown for a Feb. 1 performance the Youngstown Club, 201 E. Commerce St., downtown. For the past 20 years, Veal, a 1976 graduate of Mooney High School, has performed his blend of blues and soul throughout the United States and the Caribbean. The performance, part of Bourbon Street Blues Night, will start at 5 p.m. There will be no cover charge. The main dining room will feature a special Creole menu.
