Heart Ball to be black-tie affair

YOUNGSTOWN — American Heart Association will hold its 2008 Heart Ball beginning at 6 p.m. March 1 at Stambaugh Auditorium, 1000 Fifth Ave. The “Affair From the Heart” gala will be a black-tie event.

A highlight of the evening will be the recognition of two area men who have been instrumental in making strides in the fight against heart disease and stroke. Bob Eddy, owner of Chuck Eddy Chrysler Dodge Jeep of Austintown, will be the recipient of the 2008 Heart of the Community Award, and Dr. Shawki N. Habib will receive the 2008 Cardiac Service Award.

In addition to dancing to the music of the Backbeat Band, a dinner will be served at 7:30 p.m., and a live and silent auction will be held for a variety of items.

Co-chairwomen are Tami Cook and Michelle Perdue. Premier sponsors for the ball will be Humility of Mary Health Partners, St. Elizabeth Heart and Vascular Center, Bob Eddy and local Chrysler Jeep dealers, and gold sponsors will be Boston Scientific, John Perdue Inc., National City Bank and Ohio Heart Institute.

Tickets for the evening are $150 per person (a portion is tax deductible) and will be available until Feb. 20. Proceeds for the Heart Ball will help fund heart disease and stroke educational programs throughout the community.
