Goodwill group is set for auction


Proceeds from the two-day event will benefit people with disabilities and special needs.

YOUNGSTOWN — The 16th annual Antique and Collectible Auction has been scheduled by the Junior Group of Goodwill for Saturday at Stambaugh Auditorium, 1000 Fifth Ave. Admission will be $2 at the door.

Beginning at 10 a.m. there will be a collectible jewelry sale, and from 10 until the auction begins at 11, patrons will also have an opportunity to preview auction items.

Those attending will be able to bid on collectibles and antiques such as furniture, dolls, furs, glassware, jewelry, pictures and frames, musical instruments, vintage toys and Christmas decorations.

Patron party

As a prelude to the auction, a patron party will be held from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Friday. During the party there will be a sale of collectible jewelry; an auction of merchant donations such as sports tickets, autographed sports memorabilia and fine jewelry; a basket raffle; a silent auction of collectibles; a Chinese auction; a 50-50 raffle; and a furniture preview. Hors d’oeuvres will be served, and there will be a cash bar.

Tickets for the patron party are $20 ($5 tax-deductible) and must be purchased in advance by Monday at the Goodwill office, from Junior Group members, from Goodwill trustees or at Goodwill stores. Ticket holders will also be admitted to the Saturday event.

Sponsors are Home Savings and Loan, Allied Waste, Aim NationalLease and Hill, Barth & King.

Proceeds will benefit Goodwill’s job training and employment services for people with disabilities and other special needs in Mahoning, Trumbull, Columbiana, Mercer and Lawrence counties.
