Central Michigan slips past Zips

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. — Nate Minnoy’s layup with 1:35 left made the difference for Central Michigan in the Chippewas’ 65-64 win over Akron Saturday.

Robbie Harman hit a long jumper with 2:15 to play to put Central Michigan (8-10, 3-3 Mid-American) ahead 63-62.

Akron’s Nick Dials made a free throw to tie it at 63 with 2:04 remaining, but Minnoy followed with his basket for Central Michigan.

Ohio 61, Ball St. 59

ATHENS — Jerome Tillman’s jumper with five seconds left capped Ohio’s second half comeback.

Ohio (13-6, 4-2 Mid-American) trailed 35-23 at the half, but the Bobcats chipped away at the Cardinals’ lead and went ahead 53-51 on Bert Whittington’s layup with 2:10 remaining. Ball State (3-15, 2-4) tied it at 59 on Anthony Newell’s 3-pointer with 26 seconds left, setting up Tillman’s jumper.

Miami (Ohio) 65, E. Michigan 52.

OXFORD — Tim Pollitz scored 22 points and had nine rebounds to lead Miami over Eastern Michigan.

Kenny Hayes added 18 points for the RedHawks (8-10, 2-4 Mid-American), and Tyler Dierkers contributed 13.

Carlos Medlock scored 15 points for Eastern Michigan (7-11, 3-3).

Toledo 76, Buffalo 63

TOLEDO — Tyrone Kent scored 22 points and had seven rebounds to lead Toledo over Buffalo.

Jonathan Amos added 20 points and Jerrah Young contributed 10 for the Rockets (6-12, 3-3), who trailed by four with 13:05 left in the first half but outscored Buffalo 26-15 the rest of the period.

Sean Smiley scored 21 points for Buffalo, who committed 20 turnovers leading to 25 Toledo points. Andy Robinson added 14 points for the Bulls (6-12, 0-6).

Toledo shot 45.7 percent from the field but only 27.8 percent from behind the 3-point line.
