Attorney, football coach to be honored at dinner


YOUNGSTOWN — Attorney Lou D’Apolito and former Mooney High football coach Don Bucci will be honored at the 13th annual Spring Italian Dinner and Show on March 6 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Social Hall.

The event is sponsored by Tony Trolio’s Ciao Promotions.

Bucci was the head coach of Mooney from 1966 to 1999, compiling a 284-79-5 record, with four state titles, 15 playoff appearances and 18 league championships.

Ranking among the top coaches int the state, Bucci was Ohio Coach of the Year in 1973. He is the director of District 8 of the Ohio High School Football Coaches Association.

Bucci was inducted into the National High School Athletic Coaches Hall of Fame in 1998.

D’Apolito served as president of the Mahoning County Bar Association from 1977 to 1983.

His credentials include visiting municipal court judge in Campbell; special assistant, Attorney General for the State of Ohio, Workers’ Compensation Division; and assistant city prosecutor.

Entertainment will be provided by singer Michael Castaldo. Italian-born and reared in Toronto, Castaldo has performed at venues as diverse as New York’s Lincoln Center and the JVC Jazz Festival, and in many countries.

The opening act will be comedian Pat Capuzzi. Vince Camp, host of the Italian Hour on WNIO-AM 1390, will be master of ceremonies.
