Animal shelter plans Night at Races


Second Chance, which handles mainly cats and kittens, has 100 cats for adoption.

AUSTINTOWN — Second Chance Animal Rescue is sponsoring its eighth annual Night at the Races on Saturday at the Saxon Club, 710 South Meridian Road.

Doors will open at 6 p.m., and races will begin at 7. In addition, patrons can participate in maverick poker, blackjack, a 50-50 drawing, lottery raffle and a huge Chinese auction.

Admission is $5 at the door and includes pizza, sandwiches and snacks as well as a chance to win several door prizes.

About the group

Second Chance deals mainly with cats and kittens. It is an all-volunteer organization, and all proceeds raised at this event and others held throughout the year directly benefit the animals.

The shelter has about 100 cats available for adoption. The adoption fee of $95 includes spaying or neutering, first shots and other basic care.
