College grants and scholarships


MOUNT UNION COLLEGE, ALLIANCE, OHIO

Rachel Lyn Skoczylas of Warren, an education major, has been inducted into Kappa Delta Pi International Honor Society in Education.

UNIVERSITY OF AKRON

Brittanie Tillman, a senior majoring in business and organizational communication, has received the Arras Group Minority Scholarship from the American Advertising Federation-Cleveland. She is a 2004 graduate of Liberty High School and plans to remain on campus to pursue a graduate degree in business management. She is president of Akron’s chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America.

WESTMINSTER COLLEGE, NEW WILMINGTON, PA.

Three local students have been awarded grants from Westminster’s Drinko Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning to continue their undergraduate research and present their work at the American Chemical Society national meeting in New Orleans in April.

Cory Criss, a senior biochemistry major and son of Terry and Caroline Criss of Beloit, is a graduate of West Branch High School. He will use the grant to present “Gold Mediated Cellular Delivery of Anticancer Drugs.”

Joseph Elliott, a senior biochemistry major and son of Joseph Elliott of New Castle, is a graduate of Laurel High School. He will use the grant to present “Synthesis and Characterization of Polymers for Sequestering Carbon Dioxide Based on Poly (Vinyl Alcohol).”

David Davis, a senior biochemistry major and son of David and Terri Davis of Canfield, is a graduate of South Range High School. He will use the grant to present “Dispersion, Templating, and Molecular Imprinting of Carbon Nanostructures.”

HIRAM COLLEGE, HIRAM, OHIO

Sandy Lisko of Warren, a 2007 graduate of Hiram’s Weekend College, received the Service Excellence Club Award from Huntington Bank at a special awards ceremony last month. The award recognizes bank associates who perform above and beyond the very high standards set for serving customers. She is on the boards of Trumbull Mobile Meals and the Trumbull Art Gallery and spent more than 15 years in the local banking industry before being named assistant vice president and regional marketing specialist at Huntington. Lisko graduated from Hiram College magna cum laude in 2007 with a major in business management.
