Falsifying charges filed

NILES — Police have filed charges against an engaged couple for falsifying a police report to cover up a domestic dispute. Mitchell Smith, 36, was charged Thursday with filing a false police report and his fiancée, Lakesha Williams, 33, both of Ann Street, was charged with making a false alarm. The couple reported Tuesday that they were accosted by two men in the parking lot of Mr. Suds Laundromat on Vienna Road. During the alleged confrontation, Smith was cut on both hands with knives one of the supposed attackers was carrying. Police Chief Bruce Simeone said Thursday that a review of the business security video determined that the attack never occurred but rather was the result of a domestic dispute between the two earlier in the day. The chief said Williams was holding two knives and Smith was cut while trying to take the knives from her.
