ERIE, Pa. (AP) — Gov. Ed Rendell has signed a bill renaming an Erie County bridge after a soldier killed in Iraq.

The Powell Avenue Bridge in Millcreek Township will be called the Staff Sgt. Jeremy R. Horton Bridge.

Horton was 25 when he was killed by a roadside bomb on May 21, 2001.

Horton joined the Army after he graduated from Strong Vincent High School in Erie.

Horton is survived by his wife, Christie, whom he married shortly after joining the Army.
