SteelHounds deal to get Genovy, Main

YOUNGSTOWN — The Youngstown SteelHounds front office was busy Wednesday, acquiring two players and waiving three others.

First, the SteelHounds traded defenseman Gord Burnett to the Laredo Bucks for center Jeff Genovy and forward Brent McSween Wednesday. Then they sent McSween to the Texas Brahmas for defenseman Eric Main.

Youngstown also waived goaltender Layne Sedevie, forward Chris Ferazzoli and defenseman Andrew Scampoli.

Genovy, 25, is a second-year pro from Kalamazoo, Mich. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound center played 53 games for Laredo, compiling 10 goals, 17 assists and 36 penalty minutes in two seasons. He was selected by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the third round (No. 96 overall) in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. He had 22 career goals, 34 assists and 196 penalty minutes in 131 games at Colgate University.

“Genovy brings size speed and skill,” said SteelHounds coach and director of hockey operations Kevin Kaminski. “He takes pride in playing a solid defensive game and is a good face-off man.”

Main, 24, is a second-year pro from Atitokan, Ont. The 6-0, 194 defenseman had two goals, four assists and 40 penalty minutes in 34 games for Texas. He spent his rookie season in the ECHL where he had two goals, two assists and 50 penalty minutes in 47 games for the Stockton Thunder. Main played four years at Colgate University where he registered five goals, 10 assists and 177 penalty minutes in 131 games.

“Main is an in your face type player who brings character, grit and a great work ethic,” said Kaminski. “He has a mindset to not get scored on. He will play a big roll to keep the top goal scorers off the sheet.”

The SteelHounds play host to the Rocky Mountain Rage for three games, starting Friday at the Chevrolet Centre.
