Kent State surges past Akron, 75-69

KENT — Mike Scott and Chris Singletary each scored 18 points in Kent State’s 75-69 win over Akron Wednesday night.

The Golden Flashes, who trailed 35-25 at halftime, got a layup from Singletary with 10:03 remaining to tie that game at 46-46. Rodriquez Sherman’s layup 30 seconds later sparked a 15-8 run that gave Kent State a lead it never relinquished.

Kent State shot 68 percent in the second half surge.

Al Fisher scored 16 points and Haminn Quaintance added 12 for Kent State (15-4, 4-1 Mid-American).

Nick Dials led Akron (14-4, 4-1) with 22 points. Jeremiah Wood had 14 and Brett McKnight added 10.

Kent State shot 57.5 percent overall (23 of 40) and the Zips shot 44 percent (23 of 52).

Bowling Green 55, Miami (Ohio) 52

BOWLING GREEN — Nate Miller and Darryl Clements each scored 15 points to lead Bowling Green over Miami.

Ahead 53-52 with 25 seconds left, Chris Knight made a jumper to push the Falcons’ lead to three. Miami inbounded the ball with six seconds remaining, but Kenny Hayes missed a 3-point attempt as time expired.

Knight finished with 11 points and nine rebounds for Bowling Green (8-9, 3-2 Mid-American).

Tim Pollitz led the RedHawks (7-10, 1-4) with 15 points. Alex Moosmann added 11 and Hayes had 10.

Ohio 68, Buffalo 59

AMHERST, N.Y. — Bert Whittington’s 22 points and six rebounds sent Ohio over Buffalo.

Leon Williams had 10 points and nine rebounds, and Tommy Freeman contributed 13 points as Ohio (12-6, 3-2 MAC) handed Buffalo its sixth consecutive loss.

Andy Robinson, with a game-high 23 points, was the only player in double figures for Buffalo (6-11, 0-5).
