YOUNGSTOWN — Paul Harkey, area manager for Ohio Edison, said a power failure at 8:28 a.m. Monday cut off service to 513 customers in the downtown area, including The Vindicator. As a result, there are no Tributes in today’s Vindicator. He said an equipment failure inside the Belmont Avenue substation caused the outage.
Half of the 513 customers had power restored by 11:55 a.m. and all customers had power by 12:30 p.m. Harkey said power was rerouted. The cause of the failure is being investigated.
Fire at Five Guys
BOARDMAN — The fire department responded to a call at 5:15 a.m. Monday at Five Guys Burger and Fries, 7322 Market St. The fire, which is believed to have started in the kitchen, remains under investigation. The fire department doesn’t have a monetary estimate of damage.
Fire damages home
AUSTINTOWN — A fire at 5:30 a.m. Monday at 4220 Burkey Road caused about $65,000 damage to the home and $5,000 to $10,000 damage to contents said Assistant Fire Chief Andy Frost III. The fire, still under investigation, started in the front of the residence. No one was home at time; the house is being renovated, he said.
Frost said firefighters were at the scene about three hours and were hampered slightly by the low temperatures, which caused hose lines to freeze up and tools to break.
Arrested at Mooney
YOUNGSTOWN — Officers responding to an alarm at Cardinal Mooney High School, 2545 Erie St., at 1 p.m. Sunday arrested William Jones, 48, of East Princeton Street, after finding him in a hallway. Jones told police he had chased a man, for an unknown reason, into the school through the main doors. Police searched the school and didn’t find anyone else. A police report noted that officers found a west office window broken. Jones, who was taken to Mahoning County Justice Center, was charged with breaking and entering.
Killed in accident
NEW CASTLE, Pa. — Samantha Lee Dambrosi, 26, of New Castle, was declared dead at the scene of a two-vehicle accident at 6:30 a.m. Monday on Interstate 79 in Butler County.
Pennsylvania State Police reported that the accident occurred when a northbound vehicle driven by Sam J. Dambrosi, 51, of New Castle, Samantha’s father, struck the right rear of a tractor-trailer driven by Christopher Griffin, 30, of High Point, N.C. The Dambrosi vehicle traveled across the left travel lane and struck a guard rail on the west side of the road and came to rest on the driver’s side. Griffin was not injured. The elder Dambrosi was injured but the police didn’t have information on whether he was treated at the scene or hospitalized.
