SCOPE Niles Senior Center, 14 E. State St., is seeking 500 bid card players for Tuesday afternoon sessions. Preregistration is required for a tournament to be held on Feb. 5. The fee of $1 will be used for prizes, and there will be a 50-50 raffle. Other card games are held at the center during the week and on Monday evenings. Beginning Feb. 1 and continuing each Wednesday and Friday until April 15, the center is offering income-tax preparation help for the elderly and individuals with low income. The hours are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Participants are to take a copy of their 2006 income-tax return or, if the return was not filed, a valid picture ID. Senior Center of Mahoning County, 1110 Fifth Ave., Youngstown, has planned the following activities: Monday, the center closed in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day; Tuesday, oil painting at 10 a.m., computer at 10 and noon, and digital class at 2 p.m.; Wednesday, piano lessons at 9 a.m., watercolor class and computer at 10, computer and tai chi at noon and 500 card club at 1 p.m.; Thursday, Watch Our Weight and woodcarvers at 9 a.m.; exercises at noon and square and line dancing at 1 p.m.; and Friday, Texas Hold ’Em cards at 1 p.m. Special events include: Wednesday, Blue Iris Cafe from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Thursday, Boardman Park Fun Day, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.; and Friday, Youngstown Fun Day and program, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Call the center to make an appointment for the “Traveling Social Worker” program.
