East sails past Hope for eighth victory

YOUNGSTOWN — Kenny Carter scored 19 points and also had eight rebounds and four assists to lead East High, which took a 52-25 halftime lead and went on to defeat Cleveland Hope, 89-56, Saturday night in a boys basketball game.

Jurrell Burt added 18 points and five rebounds for the Panthers (8-7), while Teshawn Letlow had 12 points and five rebounds and Anthony Bowers added 10 points, four rebounds, two steals and two assists.

Alexander Ryan had 27 points and 18 rebounds, while William White added 10 points for Hope (4-5).

Kennedy Catholic 70, Mooney 66

HERMITAGE, Pa. — The Cardinals (6-7) leading 53-40 after three quarters, couldn’t stop the Eagles’ (10-8) 30-13 surge in the last eight minutes.

Kyle Randall, who scored eight of the Eagles’ points in the fourth period, had a game-high 24 points. Phil Kaikas and Chace McKinney added 14 and 13 respectively.

Ronnie Martino led the Cardinals with 14 points, while Mike Gemma and L.J. Sutton each had 13.

Mansfield Sr. 68,
Warren Harding 62

MANSFIELD — Previously-unbeaten Warren Harding had a 47-46 lead entering the final quarter, but Mansfield Senior out-scored the Raiders in the final quarter, 22-15.

T.J. Lindsay scored 27 points and had eight rebounds and six assists to lead Mansfield (13-1), while Jacob Owens added 14 and Pierre Smith 12.

Damian Eargle and Sheldon Brogdon each scored 17 points to pace Harding, while Desmar Jackson added 12 and Chris Henderson nine. Eargle also had 12 rebounds.

Farrell 78, Massillon 49

NORTH CANTON — Donald Jackson, Trapheal Stubbs and Marsell Holden shared 48 points in leading Farrell past Massillon in the second game of the Pizza Oven Classic.

Leading 11-9 at the end of the first quarter, the Steelers (12-3) took a 34-20 halftime lead then cruised to the victory.

Jackson scored 25 points to lead Farrell. Stubbs added 12 and Holden 11. Justin Turner led the Tigers with 25 points.
