Cerniga 50th wedding anniversary observed at dinner party in California


X SPRINGVILLE, Calif. — Dr. Raymond M. and Marilyn L. Cerniga of Springville, formerly of the Youngstown area, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with friends and relatives during a dinner party held Dec. 28 at River Island Country Club in Centerville, Calif.

The former Marilyn Evans and Dr. Cerniga were united in marriage Dec. 28, 1957, at St. James Episcopal Church in Boardman, which is now preserved as St. James Meeting House in Boardman Township Park.

Dr. Cerniga, who graduated from Ohio State University as a doctor of veterinary medicine, was involved for most of his career with beef cattle and the animal-health business and became president of Walco International, an animal-health company. After retiring, he became involved with an injectible trace mineral with the Multimin, USA, based in South Africa.

Mrs. Cerniga, a graduate of Bowling Green State University, taught physical education at Hayes Junior High School prior to her marriage and English at Porterville Union High School in California. She has trained and shown Arabian horses at local, regional and national levels and raises shorthorn cattle. She is an artist and has received several awards for her works.

Dr. and Mrs. Cerniga are members of the Arabian Horse Association of San Joaquin Valley and the National Arabian Horse Association. They have participated in 23 Rose Bowl Parades and are involved in many organizations and clubs in California.
