On deck: The SteelHounds and Mudbugs continue their three-game set tonight at 7:05 p.m. and Sunday at 4:05 p.m. Next weekend, the Rocky Mountain Rage, the team with the best record in the Central Hockey League’s Northern Conference, will take on the SteelHounds three times at the Chevrolet Centre.

Injury update: Defenseman Milan Maslonka and forward Jason Baird have been placed on the 14-day disabled list. The SteelHounds signed two players from the Indiana Ice Miners of the Mid Atlantic Hockey League to replace them. Forward Chris Ferazzoli score 21 goals and 38 assists in 23 games with the Miners. Scampoli had five goals and 19 assists in 22 games.

Military jerseys: The SteelHounds again will wear military desert camouflage uniforms for tonight’s game. The jerseys will be auctioned off after the game. Tonight’s fans are asked to bring nonperishable items to donate to Second Harvest Food Bank.

Latest poll: The SteelHounds dropped four spots in this week’s CHL Coaches Poll. The SteelHounds fell to seventh. The Rage have the top spot and the Mudbugs are second. Laredo, Colorado, Arizona and Odessa also are ahead of Youngstown.

Franck returns: SteelHounds goalie Andy Franck played his first home game since Nov. 24. He was called up to the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League on Nov. 28 where he went 7-1-1 in nine starts. Providence sent Franck back to the SteelHounds on Jan. 8. His record fell to 11-4-1 after two losses last weekend to the Mississippi RiverKings.

All-Stars: Chris Richards scored a goal in Wednesday’s All-Star Game in Broomfield, Colo. It was the SteelHounds captain’s fifth All-Star Game. Forward Petr Pohl earned an assist as the Northern Conference lost, 11-6. Franck started for the Northern team and stopped 11 of the 14 shots he faced.

Dominance: In the first four minutes of the second period, the SteelHounds swarmed about Mudbugs goalie John DeCaro, hitting the goalpost once and sending passes through the goal crease twice. Late in the period, a SteelHounds shot deflected off the crossbar behind DeCaro. The Mudbugs were outshot, 19-2, in the middle frame as they were penalized five times compared to one for the SteelHounds.
