Registration

Schools are beginning to register children for kindergarten for the 2008-09 school year. In most cases, children must be age 5 by Sept. 30 and have proof of proper immunizations, their birth certificate, a Social Security number and proof of residency at the time of registration. Proof of legal custody may also be required. Any additional requirements are listed with each school.

Holy Family, 2731 Center Road, Poland; St. Charles, 7325 Westview Drive, Boardman; St. Luke, 5235 South Ave., Boardman; and St. Nicholas, 762 Fifth St., Struthers: Registration sat all four schools being at 9 a.m. Feb. 4 at their respective buildings. Baptismal certificate is required if a child wasn’t baptized at the parish a child plans to attend. Parents or guardians should call the school offices to secure registration materials — Holy Family at (330) 757-3713, St. Charles at (330) 758-6689, St. Luke at (330) 782-4060 and St. Nicholas at (330) 755-2128. Registration fees must be paid at time of registration. They are $25 at Holy Family, $30 at St. Charles, $50 at St. Luke and $146 at St. Nicholas.

Brookfield Elementary School: 115 Anson Way, Sharon, Pa. March 11 — 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., 1 to 2 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. March 13 — 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. In addition to the above-listed requirements, two proofs of residency are needed. For more information, call (330) 347-1851.

Mohawk Elementary School: Mohawk School Road, Bessemer, Pa. The school will hold screenings Feb. 20 and 21 for children who will be 5 years old before Sept. 1. Child’s birth certificate, Social Security card and immunization record required. Schedule an appointment by calling the school at (724) 667-7749 Ext. 1100 between 9:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. weekdays.

St. Patrick School: 38 E. Water St., Hubbard. The school will begin accepting registrations Jan. 28. Financial aid forms are now also available. St. Patrick is a participant in the state Education Choice Scholarship (voucher) program, and entering kindergarten students are eligible for that program if the school they would attend in their home school district is on the approved list put out by the state. Newton Falls Elementary School: 909 Milton Blvd., Newton Falls. Registration for children entering the Newton Falls schools, including kindergarten and transfers, will be held Feb. 25 and 26 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. and March 31-April 4 from 9 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 2:30 p.m. An appointment isn’t required. Children will be scheduled for a mandated screening time on April 24 or 25. Questions should be addressed to the school secretary, Dee Howard, at (330) 872-5225.

Boardman: Registration for kindergarten and all new students will be from 9 to 11 a.m., 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Feb. 14 in each of the four elementary school offices. The custodian parent or guardian must be a resident of the school district, and kindergarten children must reach the age of 5 on or before Aug. 1 of this year. Two proofs of residency are required as well as a $25 fee. The district also plans to do assessments and evaluations of preschoolers with disabilities and is looking for early referrals for that service. Referrals should include the child’s and parents’ names, address, telephone number, child’s date of birth and known or suspected disabilities and should be sent to the Special Education Office, 7410 Market St., Youngstown, Ohio 44512.
