Warren man is indicted in Jan. 6 shooting death

The accused man was free on bond in a drug case when the shooting occurred.

WARREN — A Warren man charged with shooting a Michigan man to death just off state Route 169 was indicted on charges of murder and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Jason A. Orr, 29, of Ravenwood Drive, Howland, was indicted by a Trumbull County grand jury on Thursday in the shooting death of Tristan Aguilar, 24, of Saginaw, Mich. He is being held in Trumbull County Jail without bond.

If convicted, he could be sentenced to 18 years to life in prison.

Police said Orr shot Aguilar, who has family members in Warren, in the chest about 7:15 a.m. Jan. 6 in a vacant lot near Colonial Street and Adelaide Avenue Southeast.

Aguilar had been wanted on nine arrest warrants in Michigan in a shooting involving a police officer and other offenses.

Orr was indicted on two charges of heroin possession and one of aggravated drug possession on Nov. 20 in Trumbull County. That case was pending, and he was free on $2,500 bond at the time of Aguilar’s death.

Warren Detective Wayne Mackey, who is investigating the death with Detective Justin Soroka, said Aguilar was with Orr in a vacant lot at Colonial and Adelaide that Sunday morning.

He said Orr drove into the driveway of the lot, got out and had a conversation with Aguilar that turned into an argument and then a fight.

Authorities say Orr returned to his car and was backing out of the driveway when he fired, striking Aguilar in the chest.

Aguilar was dropped off at St. Joseph Health Center, where he was pronounced dead shortly after police arrived.

Orr turned himself in to police the day after the shooting.

Orr was convicted of marijuana trafficking in 1997 and was sentenced to two years of probation.
