Columbiana hands Raiders first league loss

COLUMBIANA — Playing major defense on Autumn Carter had a major bearing as the Columbiana High girls basketball team handed South Range its first league loss on Thursday.

Clippers senior center Katie Douglas had 10 of her 15 points in the first half as Columbiana defeated the Raiders, 41-28.

Clippers senior Audrey Davidson scored eight of her 10 points in the fourth period for the Clippers (8-7, 6-4 Inter Tri-County League Tier One). Sophomore Katie Witmer scored eight of her 10 points in the third quarter.

Douglas and Witmer had five rebounds apiece for Columbiana, which trailed, 21-14, at the half.

Carter didn’t score in the second half after getting four points in the first two quarters.

Abby Schuler’s eight points led South Range (13-2, 8-1), which beat the Clippers earlier this season, 49-33.

Springfield 52, East Palestine 27

NEW MIDDLETOWN — The Tigers put the ITCL Tier One game out of reach 32-14 by intermission.

Rachel Kennedy sparked the Tigers (5-11, 3-7) with 16 points and nine rebounds. Ashley Davis had nine rebounds and Carrie Ritzler had five assists.

Erin Reese paced the Bulldogs (4-9, 2-8) with 12 points and she pulled down nine rebounds.

Crestview 40, Mineral Ridge 35

MINERAL RIDGE — Chelsea Bowker scored 21 points, including 17 in the first three quarters, as Crestview took a 31-19 lead through three quarters.

Shanelle Davner added 17 points for the Rebels (11-5, 6-4).

Nicole Honsaker had 13 points and Heather Rinehart added 11 for the Rams (1-13, 0-9).

Leetonia 42, Lowellville 28

LEETONIA — Clarissa Perkins scored 17 points to lead the Bears. Perkins also had seven rebounds and four steals for the Bears (12-3, 9-1 ITCL Tier Two).

Lynsie Davis scored seven points while Sarah Weikart, Deidre Currie and Erin Lamb each contributed six.

For the Rockets, Ali Grapevine scored eight.

McDonald 44, Southern 19

McDONALD — Joh’Vonnie Mosley scored 17 points to lead McDonald, which jumped out to an 18-0 lead after the first period and led by 37-8 entering the final quarter.

Emily Dolsak had nine rebounds, four assists and three points to aid McDonald (13-1, 8-1 ITCL Tier Two), while Ari-Anna Williams had three steals and four points.

Southern fell to 1-14, 0-10.

Sebring 65, Wellsville 29

WELLSVILLE — The Trojans (10-5, 6-4 ITCL Tier Two) rushed out to a 20-2 lead in the first quarter and they were in command 37-12 at intermission.

Julia Grimsey, who connected on a school record six 3-point baskets, sparked the Trojans with 20 points.

Megan Allcorn chipped in with 16 points. Taylor Nannah pulled down 13 rebounds and she had four assists. Jacqui Zmuda had six assists.

Brittany Bissell led the Tigers with 11 points. Shawntae Dillard added 10.

Western Reserve 59,
Jackson-Milton 41

BERLIN CENTER — Ellie Sanders scored 17 points to lead the Blue Devils (5-10, 5-4 Tier Two).

Melissa Burkey had 13 points and five assists, Claire Ferrando scored nine points and Jess Keller contributed six points and nine rebounds.

For the Bluejays, Alyssaa Chine scored 14 points

Lordstown 40

ANDOVER —Rose Lane had 15 points, Constance Streh 14, Brandy Romanowski 12 and Olivia Holt and Kayla Landis 10 each to pace a well-balanced attack for Pymatuning Valley (12-2, 6-2 Northeastern Athletic Conference).

Brianna Blodgett had 14 points and six rebounds to lead Lordstown (8-6, 3-4 NAC), while Heather Wickline added eight points and six rebounds and Kaylie Luzadder six points and six rebounds.

Karly Gibbs contributed seven assists, five steals and four points to aid the Red Devils.
