Assault case goes to grand jury

YOUNGSTOWN — The case against Charles Zimmerman, 36, of Hunter Street was bound over to a Mahoning County grand jury from municipal court on Thursday. Zimmerman is accused of robbing and assaulting an elderly South Side man on Jan. 7. He was caught at a house in Campbell the next day. He is charged with aggravated burglary, kidnapping and robbery. Court records show Zimmerman is also accused in the aggravated burglary of a West Calla Road house in Beaver Township on Jan. 1 and is accused in a Dec. 21, 2007 robbery that took place in Boardman. He remains in jail in lieu of bonds that total more than $2 million.
